Collection Service

Starting in June 2024, our pilot project will offer a weekly collection service for members of our Community Composting Hub. We are targeting restaurants, grocery stores, schools, health care facilities and any other workplaces with significant amounts of materials for composting.

Our Food Services specialist, Mark Fisher, will be working directly with restaurants and grocery stores. He’ll be asking some basic questions to help us design the best service possible for your specific needs.

  1. How much garbage do you have per week and how much of this can be separated out for composting?
  2. Do you have collection containers to use or do you need us to provide them? We favour 5 gallon pails with lids and buckets but something a little smaller or a little larger is fine. We are hand loading everything into a pick up truck so it’s important that weights do not exceed 10 kg (22 lbs) for worker safety.
  3. Would you like a regular weekly pick up or would you prefer a different service level (less or more?)

The pilot project will continue for 20 weeks, ending after the first week in November.

To join the Hub, just sign up to be a member of MASH and select Community Composting Hub for $20. Alternatively, you can just hand over cash and we will add you to our membership list.

WIN BACK YOUR $20 MEMBERSHIP FEE! Each $20 membership goes into a prize pot. The organization with the highest number of weeks without contamination in their collection pails is eligible to win half of all the fees collected. And, if there is more than one winner, we will split the jackpot. And if everybody is eligible to win, we will refund all the memberships fees! This means that everybody has an equal chance of winning back your $20 🙂
