Apple Pressing in the Park (New Hazelton)
Our annual community apple pressing event in Allen Park provides an opportunity to get your apples pressed into soft cider. If you make a reservation, please show up 10 minutes before your scheduled time and be prepared to get hands on. The first step is to sort your apples, and make sure they are ready to be pressed. Then we grind them into smaller chunks before running them through the press.
We are accepting reservations for large quantities of apples to avoid wait times. Phone Laurie at 250-847-1399 to reserve a 30 minute or 60 minute appointment. There will also be an Express Lane for drop-ins with just one or two pails of apples.
Please bring your own juice containers – we will have a limited number of one litre canning jars for sale $2 each with lid and ring, ready for your canner.
This is a free event but we appreciate donations to help cover our costs and suggest $10 for 30 minutes and $25 for one hour. This is the cost of an annual membership to our non-profit that is also running the Community Composting Hub.
We are looking for volunteers to help out with the event – if you want to play music or run a kids activity please get in touch.
Allen Park is located between Hwy 16 and 9th Ave and is accessed off Laurier Ave, by the Robbers Roost Motel.
Please park in designated parking lot and carry your containers of apples over to our work area. You must have an appointment if you have a lot of apples – please phone us 778-210-MASH (6274) or send us a Facebook message or email to confirm your spot. “A LOT” means more than 2 or 3 buckets worth. To save time, we recommend you read our page about Apple Pressing under Member Services and prepare your apples so that the Wash,Sort, Chop station can be skipped all together.
This is a community service but we encourage you to join our non-profit or make a donation to support our work. Suggested is $10/individual or small volume of apples and $25/family or large volume of apples. Memberships can be purchased in advance from our website or you can purchase at the event or at the Composting Hub during open hours.
